Romina Schwedler

Romina Schwedler is an award-winning director and screenwriter based in New York City.

Romina was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she began her artistic career as a classical dancer. At the early age of 15, she moved to NY by herself after being selected for the School of American Ballet. She followed with music education at The Juilliard School and intensive acting training at the William Esper Studio, during which she began to be featured in films, TV, music videos and commercials.

Daughter of a successful Argentinean actress/director and an award-winning photographer, Romina developed a passion for visual storytelling at a young age.

In 2014, she directed How a Man Gets Ready (a spec ad/micro-short film she also wrote/produced/edited/starred in). Through this piece she was selected as one of the top emerging filmmakers of the year at SHOOT Magazine’s 12th Annual New Directors Showcase. Her next work was Bad Connections (another spec ad/micro-short film). Together, her debut micro-shorts went on to screen at over 30 venues worldwide, including TCL Chinese Theater and TriBeCa Screening Room. They also received 23 awards and 4 nominations combined.

In 2015 Romina wrote/directed/produced The Visit: A 12 minute psychological drama starring Academy Award Nominee June Squibb (Nebraska, About Schmidt) and Sean Maher (Firefly, Serenity).

The Visit received raving reviews and gained inclusion in over 50 film festivals worldwide, several of them Oscar Qualifying. The film also received 13 awards16 nominations and 5 special mentions. Awards include Best Director, Best Short Film, Best Festival Film, and Audience Choice. The film was acquired by ShortsTV.

Romina recently finished post-production on her new film Now You See Us, a short comedy about two women of a "certain age" who feel invissible to the society they live in. The film was shot in NYC with an all-female crew. Besides beginning festival submissions for her new film, Romina is currently working on a feature film project as well as developing a TV series.
