Laurie Rubin has been directing commercials since 1992, building upon an extremely successful career as a print advertising photographer. Winning assignments from such advertisers as McDonald’s, Cadillac, Sara Lee, Kraft and S.C. Johnson, she has proven her mastery of the film medium and ability to craft memorable images.
Rubin’s work combines the elegance and eye for detail of an illustrator, with the passion for beautiful objects of a devoted collector. Given her background, it is not surprising that she designs the sets for most of the commercials she shoots.
A Chicago native, Rubin began her career as an illustrator and later turned to photography. In 1981 she opened Laurie Rubin Photography, which continues to do a flourishing trade in print advertising.
Her print work includes artful campaigns for Crate & Barrel, Dole Fruit, De Beers, Compaq Computer, Little Caesar’s, International Paper and Purina. She has also published two books, Food Tales, in which her photographs accompany food-related stories by well known authors, and The Healing Kitchen, a book on the healing properties of popular herbs.
